Proverb #541

Agwa bụ nma nwanyị”

The sage that gave us this proverb has asked us to interpret this thusly ...

Ejighi ọcha ma ọbụ ogologo (mma efu ma ọbụ ile anya) ama nwanyị mara

nma, kama omume ma ọbụ agwa nwanyị ga-egosi udị mma nwanyị mara ...

In other words, many kinds of beauty may exist but among the most prized for the Igbo man / woman is the lady's character.

If there is no character then the whole question and ideal of 'beauty' in the woman is severly undermined.

Character.

That is of great incontrovertible value.
And oh for good measure ... the giver of this proverb is just such a woman - great character.
